Appeals Court Rejects Trump Medicaid Work Requirements
Arkansas implemented a work requirement for their Medicaid recipients. Kentucky soon followed. A democratic governor elected reversed the state requirement and Kentucky was eliminated from the lawsuit. The ruling, written by a Reagan appointee, said the administration failed to show how such rules would help Medicaid to meet its mission of covering the poor. Seema […]

So what did they report and can it still be confirmed? They reported, “Dozens of highly respected investigators, scholars and government officials around the world claim the […]

The Politicization Of Science The Irreproducibility Crisis of Modern Science
Causes, Consequences, and the Road to Reform David Randall Christopher Welser Preface by Peter Wood The National Association of Scholars (NAS) has long been interested in the politicization of science. We have also long been interested in the search for truth—but mainly as it pertains to the humanities and social sciences. The irreproducibility crisis brings […]
America is looking disturbingly like Europe
For health policy that works, look at the evidence By Linda Gorman, opinion contributor When a policy generating a lot of fame and fortune starts to go wrong, the temptation to ignore new data can be irresistible. For over 50 years, mainstream U.S. health policy makers have promoted research supporting Kenneth Arrow’s 1963 assertion that […]
Employer based health insurance.
American Academy of Actuaries An address by George Ross Fisher, MD, to the Actuarial Society of New York, was featured in one of our annual medical conferences. His opening statement was that employers should move out of the health insurance business completely, as gracefully and as quickly as they can. His reasoning was medical, […]
Basic Ambulatory Medical Care is Not Insurable.
We have become so accustomed to having all of medical care covered by insurance. The evidence indicates that if we paid for our basic ambulatory care personally, instead of paying through our health insurance program, we would save 47 percent of our costs. That’s a huge savings. However, we seldom hear of this side of […]

Warmest personal regards, Del Meyer, MD, Editor and Founder. * * * * * The major current Problems in HealthCare The $3 trillion health care industry is the only major segment of the economy that is failing, and there is nothing the employer, insurance carrier or government can do about it. Health care is the only product or service (outside of public education) that has consistently grown worse over the past 75 years, with decreasing customer (patient) satisfaction. Every other product and service in our economy has improved in quality and grown less expensive over time, with increasing customer satisfaction. Health care is the only sector of the economy where prices have been steadily increasing since the end of WWII. Every other sector of the economy is reaping the benefits of Moore’s Law, which states that the cost of digital technology decreases by 50 percent every 18 months. In health care, it is the reverse: less efficient and more-costly. For instance, although the Length of Stay (LOS) for delivery of a child has decreased from four or five days to one or two days, the hospital cost has more than doubled. The LOS for gallbladder surgery has decreased from five days to one day, but the hospital cost has doubled. The surgeons’ fees have remained relatively stable during this time. The answer and solution to this conundrum is the challenge of HealthPlanUSA. Please join us in this dialog and conversation.
